HBS wins Midget crown

The Liberty County Recreation Department’s baseball season concluded Tuesday with the Midget league championship.
Hinesville Builders Supply claimed the crown, defeating Coastal EMC 7-3 at Liberty Independent Troop Park.
Antonio Smith earned the win for HBS, pitching a complete game (6 innings) and allowing only three runs. He struck out 13 batters and surrendered only three hits.
His counterpart, CEMC pitcher Andrew Martin also pitched well, striking out eight batters in five innings.
HBS struck early, scoring five in the first inning.
Martin and the defense, however, settled down and shut out HBS until Jan Nazario hit a two-run in the park homerun in the fifth inning.
Nazario finished the game, going 3-for-3. He scored two runs and also stole a base.
CEMC scored two runs in the third and a run in the fourth.
They had a golden opportunity in the sixth with bases loaded, trailing 7-3. However, Smith dug deep and got ahead on the batter 0-2, but after three straight balls, he dug even deeper and froze the batter with a strike on the outside corner to win the game.
DaBrent Nobles had a good day at the plate for HBS, going 2-for-3, with a double and scoring two runs.
HBS had eight hits and played solid defense.
In the first inning, they turned a double play.
Second baseman Phonchit Soukhamneut scooped up a grounder, tagged the runner going to second and flipped the ball to first baseman Willie Inman..
For CEMC, Curtis Michalowicz went 1-for-2 with a walk. He also scored a run and stole three bases.His teammate Molbro Roberts also was impressive on the basepath, stealing four bases.
HBS players include Dominic Adams, Javis Boutwell, Alex Garvin, Willie Inman, Korwin Kyle, Jan Nazario, DaBrent Nobles, Joshua Radford, Antonio Smith, James Smith, Phonchit Soukhamneut, Khalil Walker and Clayton Waters. Brenton Nobles coaches the team.
