The First Presbyterian Men Highlanders' junior varsity and varsity squads handed Glennville Christian Academy losses Saturday afternoon, but the Lady Minutemen dominated the Lady Highlanders and won by eight points.
The junior varsity men's team claimed a 31-27 victory over the Minutemen and JV coach, David Linderman said the win helped build confidence as they enter this week's scheduled three region games.
"I was proud of this young team," Linderman said. "The starters continue to play well and the bench (Brian Bell, Matt Brown, Rickey Gillard) is coming in and giving me some good minutes. I can't ask for any more than that."
The varsity Highlanders continue to add to their win column and were preparing for regional games on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. They continue their grueling week with a non-region game against Memorial Day in Savannah Saturday afternoon.
With six games in nine days it is any wonder how the Highlanders can keep up their energy and maintain their winning streak. But it goes back to their players who know how to keep the intensity up and the shots in the basket.
Mike Brown scored 34 points in their victory over the Minutemen. Joey Bell and AJ Ansley scored 18 and 11 points, respectively.
All the games are leading to Savannah on Jan. 29 when the Highlanders play Bethesda on their home turf. The Highlanders upset the top-seeded team in their first meet and coach Darrell West would like nothing more than to do the same in Savannah.
