Hoops kick in fast and furious this week

The holiday season is behind us. The Christmas lights are coming down and the New Year has dawned. For high school sports that means we turn our attention to basketball.
Today begins the fast and furious pace toward the final four and regional state championships for the 3-AAAAA Bradwell Tigers, the 3-AAA Liberty County Panthers and the 2-A GISA region First Presbyterian Highlanders.
Tonight, the Tigers travel to Windsor Forest for a regional match up, while the Panthers face region rival Richmond Hill at home. Both teams are scheduled to tip off at 6:30 p.m.
First Presbyterian has until Jan. 8 to get ready for their big game against powerhouse Bethesda at home Jan. 8.
The tip-off starts at 4 p.m. with the Lady Highlanders junior varsity game followed by the men’s junior varsity and varsity games.
The Tigers and the Panthers play again Saturday with the Tigers looking to defeat Glynn Academy at home, starting at 5 p.m.; and the Panthers head to Wayne County to try and pounce on the Yellow Jackets like they did in their first match. Their tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The Panthers and the Tigers face their regional division playoffs beginning the week of Feb. 11 en-route to see who can make it to the final four.
For First Presbyterian, they are chasing down the attempt for a second shot at the state title after making it to the final four in their third season and coming away ranked number three in the state for the Georgia Independent School Association rankings.
Keep your calendar open for the next couple of Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and occasional Thursday night basketball games to show support the local high school hoops programs.
