Saturday’s cold morning didn’t stop more than 100 people from running the inaugural Tiger Run 5K benefiting the Bradwell Institute track team.
Boys’ track coach DeAndre Davis gathered everyone at the starting line and thanked them for their generosity in supporting the team’s efforts. He then told everyone to get set and pulled the trigger on the starter’s gun. The first set of runners galloped away, followed by the group of joggers and walkers.
Just 20 minutes later, track star Harold Flowers finished first in 20 minutes, 30 seconds. Three minutes later, Roger Olsen crossed the finish line for the second place (23:31). Greg Suguitan placed third (24:01), and Michelle O’Gorman placed fourth overall and first in the women’s division at 25:48.
Several runners also received first- and second-place medals for their respective age divisions in the male and female categories. A large group of runners representing Waldo Pafford Elementary was awarded a team plaque. A complete list of timed runners is available at coastalcourier.com.
Lady Tiger track coach Sheron Daniel said she was thrilled with the turnout.
Davis said they hope to host another run this summer and would like to make it an annual or semi-annual event.
