MOUNT VERNON -- Brewton-Parker College men's basketball head coach John D. Jones recorded his 100th career win as the Barons topped Reinhardt College in a SSAC game at Gillis Gym Feb. 12. The final score was 69-57.With Faulkner's loss to Lee, the Barons (6-8 in the SSAC) moved into seventh place in the conference. The top eight go to the SSAC Tourney next month at Shorter.  Reinhardt drops to 9-14 overall and 2-11 in the SSAC. Brewton-Parker’s defense was stingy throughout, limiting Reinhardt’s leading scorer Kordel Alexander to just 10 points on 3-16 shooting, and forcing the Eagles into 24 turnovers and 31 percent shooting from the field.“Eddie Dixon was amazing tonight,” Jones said. “We gave him the assignment of guarding a truly great player in Kordel Alexander, and he shut him down. He gets our game ball tonight.”Dustin Jeffords led the Barons offense with a season high 14 points. Jurbien Byrd added 11 points, and Jamaal Mills had 10.For Jones, the 100th victory comes in his first year as the head coach at BPC, and after spending seven years as the head men’s basketball coach at Nyack College (NCAA D-2) in New York.“I am grateful to the good people at both Nyack and now Brewton-Parker College who entrusted me with the leadership of their programs,” Jones said. “I will never forget the positive relationships I have developed with all of the players and coaches who have helped contribute to this milestone.”Brewton-Parker Athletic Director Sheila Simmons, who honored Jones with the game ball during pre-game homecoming ceremonies on Saturday, said, “I congratulate coach Jones for his first of many milestones to come. When coach Jones was hired, we knew we were getting a quality coach for our men’s basketball program. I am excited about the future the program as well as the continued success of coach Jones.”Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four-year, Christian college in South Georgia. It has a campus in Liberty County.
