The Long County High School girls’ basketball team picked up their fourth win of the year Tuesday as they manhandled Groves, 64-39, in Ludowici.

The outcome of the boys’ game wasn’t as pleasant for Long County, as the Blue Tide were beaten, 81-54, by the Rebels.

In junior-varsity action, the Long County boys also fell to Groves, 46-39.  There was no JV girls’ game.

Long County is scheduled to face McIntosh County Academy on Friday in Darien. Action starts at 4 p.m. The Tide teams also go on the road Saturday to play at Appling. Games start at 2 p.m. 

GIRLS

The Lady Blue Tide took a 10-point lead in at halftime and never looked back to post their first Region 2-AA win of the season.

Long County’s Malaka Elix led all scorers with 20 points. Katie Estill added 13 points, and Elexxus Wrighton scored eight points.

With the win the Lady Blue Tide improved to 4-1 overall, while Groves fell to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the region. 

BOYS

Clay Strickland led the Blue Tide with 12 points. Christian Bass added nine points. Xavier Stapleton had eight points. 

The Blue Tide fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the region, while the Rebels improved to 3-1 and 1-0.
