The Lady Panthers track team finished fourth at the region meet and two came home as region champs in their respective event.
Jana Jones took first in the discus throw, hitting 114’ 4". According to assistant track coach Nathan Mims, it was the third best throw in the state in region AAA.
Kourtney Alexander claimed first place in the pole vault after practicing for the event only two weeks.
Mims said last season the girls had only one person qualify for state. This year three Lady Panthers will take the trip to Albany May 14.
In addition to Jones and Alexander, Neisha Walthour earned a spot by placing second in the long jump.
"The girls team had an inner victory," Mims said. "They set personal records that we tried to set all year at the region finals. The 4x100m, 4x400m, 300 hurdles, 800m, pole vault, triple jump and 100 hurdles all had new best times. My hat goes off to the girls and all the effort they put into this season."
