LUDOWICI, GA — The Long County Lady Blue Tide flag football team remained undefeated on Tuesday, Oct. 19 as they dominated the Claxton Tigers in their first home game of the regular season.
The defense of the Lady Tide started off great as KeOsha McKeever came up with a big stop on third down for a loss to force the Tigers to punt. The Lady Tide took over at the Claxton 30.
It only took the Tide a few plays to hit paydirt, with their first score coming on the ground. Samaria Harris made some moves and found her way into the endzone from 26 yards out to put her team up 8-0 after the two-point conversion.
The defense came up big again with a three and out against the Tigers. The punt snap hit the ground before it reached the punter, turning the ball over to the Tide at the Claxton 10.
Two plays later, Kyleigh Sizemore found Amiyah Simpkins in the back of the endzone to make the score 14-0 with just over seven minutes left in the half.
Simpkins was not done making plays in the first half as she stepped in front of a deep pass and raced 45 yards the other way for the pick six to put her team up 21-0 going into halftime.
The Tide started the second half with the ball and Sizemore found McKeever for a big 22 yard gain to the Claxton 29. On the next play, Sizemore found a wide open Simpkins for the touchdown, making the score 27-0 with 17 minutes left in the game.
McKeever came up big on the next drive, getting two sacks and forcing another Claxton punt, which was returned to the Tigers 27, setting up a short drive.
Sizemore again was able to find a receiver in the endzone as she threw it up to basketball teammate Jada Young in the endzone to make the score 33-0 with just over 11 minutes left in the game.
The Lady Tide came up with another turnover on defense, this time in the form of a Mikaela Hayes interception at the Claxton 19. However, the offense was not able to get into the endzone on this drive, the only time that happened in the game.
Sizemore’s fourth down pass was intercepted and returned to the Claxton 25. Again, though, the defense came up with a big stop.
Justiz Williams has already had a promising start to her flag football career with several sacks on the year. She came up with another one to force a punt.
The snap hit the ground again as the Tide took over at the nine. Sizemore made up for her interception as she found France Smith in the endzone for her fourth touchdown pass of the game to make the final score 40-0.
The Lady Tide JV took the field next and dominated as well, winning 31-0. Sarah Barnes had two touchdown receptions while the defense forced three interceptions, two by Ciara O’Brien and one by Smith.
The Lady Tide is 2-0 on the year and has yet to allow a touchdown, outsourcing opponents 52-0. They will host St. Vincent’s Academy, who are 1-0 after a 41-0 win over Beach, on Thursday, Oct. 21.
