For more than 40 minutes Tuesday it looked like the Long County High School girls’ basketball team might pick up its first win of the season. Instead, host Jeff Davis High School got hot and pulled away over the last five minutes to win 45-30.
"The game was closer than the score indicates. We were only down by two with five minutes in the game, but the girls just ran out of gas," said Lady Tide coach Ryan Bailey, noting his players continue to work hard and are improving.
Shamika Richardson scored 13 points to lead Long County, which fell to 0-7.
Long County is at home tonight to take on Toombs County High School. This is the first time that the two teams have ever played, and both will be looking to pick up their first win of the season.
Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
