The Long County High School softball team’s skid continued Thursday as the Lady Tide fell to Bacon County, 1-0, for their third loss in a row.
“It was a heartbreaking loss … we had our opportunities several times during the game, but we couldn’t cash in,” Lady Tide head coach Brian Thomas said.
Long County pitcher Harley Dawson went the entire game, striking out nine batters and allowing only four hits and one run. Samantha Garcia batted 1 for 3.
With the region loss, the Lady Tide fell to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in Region 2-AA going into this week’s action. It was the third straight shutout defeat for the Lady Tide and the fourth out of five games through Monday, according to maxpreps.com.
The Lady Tide were scheduled to play McIntosh County on Tuesday in Ludowici. Results were unavailable at press time.
At 5 p.m. Thursday, Long County hosts St. Vincent’s Academy, which was 1-5 overall and 0-5 in the region as of Monday.
Thomas said that even though his team has slipped lately, the players will be ready for their remaining games.
“We are looking forward to rebounding after Labor Day and the second half of the season,” he said.
