The Long County High School girls’ basketball team fell 56-34 to Wayne County High School in a non-region contest Nov. 27.
Miranda McDowell and Jameka Boyd led the Lady Tide with 12 points each, and coach Ryan Bailey said he also was pleased with the defensive play of Brittany Hall.
"My girls played hard all game. We just were over matched by a bigger school," Bailey said. "We play AAAA and AAAAA non-region opponents to prepare our team for a grueling 2-AA schedule."
The Lady Tide’s record fell to 0-2. The girls next face an opponent from a higher classification when Liberty County comes to Ludowici on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
When the two teams met in November, the Lady Panthers from Region 2A-AAAA won 55-26. But Long County hopes to continue to improve as the basketball season progresses.
"We have a young team and it’s going to take some time for that youth to season," Bailey said. "We look to be flowing on all cylinders sometime after Christmas."
