Lady Tide Play Well but fall to Top-10 Teams
Softball

The Long County softball team went 1-2 this week, beating Glynn Academy but losing to 2-AA Region opponents Bryan County and Jeff Davis, who both are in the top-10 rankings, according to the MaxPreps-Freeman power poll.

Long County hit the road Tuesday, taking on Bryan County in Pembroke.  Going into the game, the Lady Tide were ranked No. 12, and the Lady Redskins were No. 3 in the poll. In a tough defensive battle, Bryan County pulled out a 1-0 win, improving its record to 14-4 (8-1 region).

On Wednesday, Long County hit the road again, this time traveling to Brunswick to take on Glynn in nonregion action. As they have done all year after losing a game, the Lady Tide bounced back to beat the Lady Terrors 5-3.  With the loss, Glynn fell to 3-6.

The Lady Tide saved their best for last Thursday as they took on the No. 5 team in the state, Jeff Davis. Playing in Ludowici, the game went back and forth with both teams playing hard and the outcome going down to the wire. But even though the Lady Tide put up a valiant effort, on this night the Yellow Jackets were just a little bit better, pulling out a 4-2 win in the ninth inning.

After this past week’s action the Lady Tide are 11-9 (2-7). Long County is back at home Tuesday to face Groves in a region doubleheader. The Lady Rebels (0-6, 0-5). The first game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m., and the second at 5:30 p.m.
