The Long County High School softball team fell to Vidalia, 7-0, Tuesday in Ludowici.
The Lady Indians took a 3-0 lead in the third inning and never looked back.
Long County pitcher Harley Dawson threw all seven innings. Though she struck out 10 batters, she also allowed 11 hits and seven runs, four of which were earned.
Dawson also was the leading batter for the Lady Tide, going 2 for 4. Brittany Smiley, Samantha Garcia and Caitlyn Wingate each went 1 for 3 for the Tide.
“I thought that today wasn’t one of our best games,” Long County head coach Brian Thomas said. “We did not play clean in the field, and you cannot give a good team like Vidalia any extra outs in an inning.”
Thomas also said that the recent losses have created adversity for his players — the Lady Tide were shut

out in three of their previous four games before Thursday — but that they will work through it to be better at the end of the season.
The Lady Tide fell to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in Region 2-AA, while Vidalia moved to 8-1 and 3-1.
Long County were scheduled to travel to Alma on Thursday to take on Bacon County. Results will be in this Sunday’s Courier.
On Tuesday, the Lady Tide are on the road again, facing McIntosh County in Darien. According to MaxPreps.com, MCA was winless as of Thursday. Game time is 5 p.m.
