The Long County High School softball team held their annual awards banquet last Thursday at Sybil’s in Jesup.

Harley Dawson earned three awards, including being recognized as the Region 2-AA Pitcher of the Year. Taylor Poole also had three awards.

Alyssa Anderson earned the Most Improved Player of the Year Award. Head Coach Brian Thomas commented on Anderson and the importance of showing improvement daily.

“Improvement can be measured in many ways from year to year, month to month, or even day to day. In such a season like we have, improvement is needed from day to day … for us, getting better each day is essential,” Thomas said.

Award winners included:

Brittney Smiley, Blue Tide Leadership Award and fourth varsity letterman’s bar

Samantha Garcia, Coaches Award, fourth varsity letterman’s bar and Honorable Mention on 2-AA All-Region Team

Taylor Poole, Academic Award (97 average), Highest Quality at-Bat Percentage (43.30 percent), fourth varsity letterman’s bar and Honorable Mention on 2-AA All Region Team

Amira Kuhaneck, Academic Award for JV team (95 average) and participation letter

Harley Dawson, Best Pitching Performance Award, Highest Quality at-Bat Percentage (43.30 percent), third varsity letterman’s bar and Region 2-AA Pitcher of the Year

Kaylyn McEwin, Best Defensive Performance Award and fourth-year varsity letterman’s bar

Madalyne Flynn, Best Offensive Performance Award, fourth-year varsity letterman’s bar, and All-Region 2-AA first-team member

Elizabeth Hewitt, Best Defensive Performance Award for junior-varsity team and participation letter

Hailey Hendrix, Best Offensive Performance Award for JV team  and participation letter

Katie Estill, third-year varsity letterman’s bar and Honorable Mention on All-Region 2-AA Team

Caitlyn Wingate, third-year varsity letterman’s bar and Honorable Mention on All-Region 2-AA Team
