Lady Tide's winning streak ends
softball
The Long County Lady Tide had a six-game winning streak going before last week.

It had to end sometime, but for the Long County High School softball team, it would have been much better to end their 6-game win streak against some team other than who they fell to Wednesday.

The Lady Tide team faced Appling County in Baxley in the team’s first 2-AAA Region game of the season. Having outscored their opponents 49-2 through their first six games, Long County was confident. But on this day the Lady Pirates would not be denied.

Appling jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, beating the Lady Tide 9-1.

With the loss Long County fell to 6-1 overall and 0-1 in the region. Appling County improved to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the region.

Tuesday, the Lady Tide faced Pierce County (3-2 and 0-0) in Ludowici but results were not available in time for this story. Thursday, Long County plays Brantley County (4-1 and 1-0) in Nahunta for more region action. That game starts at 6 p.m.
