Lady Tigers coach honors players at her last team banquet

The BI Lady Tigers softball team and families gathered at the Performing Arts Center last Sunday to enjoy a family-style lunch and to honor seniors Mya’ Gilliard, Kaylynn Jewell and Paige Streeper.

Players received certificates, plaques, bars and letters for their accomplishments during the season. The players and guests were also treated to a video of the girls, their families, and season’s highlights.

Bradwell letters were awarded to Kaela Gibbs, Taylor’Ann Lesly, Nevaeh Lopez and Madison McDonald. Mya’Gilliard, Kaylynn Jewell, Paige Streeper, Alexus Chavis, Whitney Evans, Sara Hause, Josephine Satele and Labrea Wright received bars.

Junior Whitney Evans earned the Silver Slugger Award and Coach’s Award. Freshman Kaela Gibbs was named Most Improved Player this season. Varsity players voted Labrea Wright their 2017-18 MVP. She also earned the Golden Glove Award.

Taylor’Ann Lesly received the Step it Up Award for serving as manager this season. Senior Mya’Gilliard won the Lady Tiger Award and Award of Academic Achievement for her high school career as a leader on the team and model student in the classroom.

Junior varsity players also received awards. L’Kaylyn Swearengen earned the Silver Slugger Award. Arianna Hernandez won Most Improved. Kaela Gibbs was recognized as MVP. And Jada Naftzinger received the Junior Varsity Coach’s Award.

Wendy Streeper, Paige Streeper’s mother, earned the Crystal Infinity Award, thanking her for her five years of service, support and dedication to the team and Parent’s Booster Club.

This was coach Sharyl Eastlake’s final banquet. She is retiring from coaching, saying she plans to spend more time with her mother Jane and her grandson Jackson. She has spent 11 years as the Bradwell Lady’s Tigers softball coach.
