Bradwell Institute recovered from a slow start to earn a 71-49 win last Saturday over Westside High School at the Great Southern Shootout in Macon.

Seandre Lee had a game-high 26 points for the Lady Tigers, who improved to 5-1. Mariah Maternik poured in 18 and Brittany Speight added 11.

Coach Faye Baker credited the Lady Tigers’ reserves for picking her team up after a sluggish start. Westside led 16-8 after the first quarter.

"It was done with our press," Baker said. "It wore them down, and we came out strong in the third quarter. We kept the pressure on and we were able to extend the lead, and that was the difference in the game."

Baker said she wanted her team to play in a holiday tournament outside of the area in preparation for strong Region 3-AAAAA foes such as Beach and Camden County.

"Win or lose, it’s going to help us in our region," Baker said.

The Lady Tigers were scheduled to play Hephzibah High or Florida’s Atlantic High on Monday. Their last tournament game was scheduled for Tuesday.
