Liberty County Panther freshman Dylan Connelly pitched a one-hitter as the Liberty squad sent a Deerfield Beach Florida team packing for sunny weather, downing them 15-0 in 4 innings Wednesday afternoon in Pierce County.
According to baseball coach David Samuel, the freshman pitcher controlled the game, striking out 8 batters.
"Dylan gave us what we needed from a pitching standpoint," Samuel said. "He got guys out quite easily all game long."
The coach said the Panthers did not commit any errors.
Samuel said Panther Chris Arnold drove in 6 runs, going 4-4 and hitting the cycle. Cody French scored four times and went 2-3. Justin Eaton drove in 2 runs as well.
"We had 11 hits, walked 6 times and got hit by a pitch twice," the coach said. "We put 20 base runners on tonight and only left 5 guys on base. We scored in each inning and put Deerfield Beach away early. I am very happy with how we are playing games right now."
Samuel said his squad is currently in fourth place in region 3-AAA and he is looking forward to today’s game against the No. 2 seed at Thomson. On Saturday the Panthers host the No. 1 seeded West Laurens at 1 p.m.
The Panthers are 7-5 overall and 3-3 in the region.
"This is a huge weekend for us," he said.
