The LCRD 10U #1 All-Star baseball team finished second at the 2017 Georgia Recreation and Parks Association, District 2, Class A-B tournament in Waycross on June 23-27.
The team reeled off four straight victories to start the tournament, defeating Ware County 12-2, Wayne County #2 7-3, Glynn County #2 4-1 and Wayne County #1 6-3. This left Liberty as the only undefeated team in the double elimination tournament and assured Liberty a berth in the State tournament.
In the championship game, Liberty faced Glynn County #1, a team that battled back through the Loser’s Bracket after a first round loss to Wayne County #1. Glynn proved to be too tough, winning the first game by a score of 12-4 and the second 10-8 to win the District 2 Championship.
Liberty will start play in the State tournament on July 11 at the John Milner Sports Complex in East Point, facing a team from East Point.
