LCRD All-Stars take District 2 titles

The Liberty County 10U All-Star football team won the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 2 tournament and advanced to the GRPA State Tournament.

The team began play in the District 2 tournament by defeating the Wayne County All-Stars at Long-Bell Stadium in Hinesville on November 14 by a score of 38-8. In second round action at Waycross on Nov. 18, the Liberty squad ran over the Glynn County All-Stars, 33-0.

This win sent Liberty into the District Championship against a tough opponent from Camden County, but Liberty prevailed, 20-12. Liberty began play in the South Regional at Tift County on Dec. 3, taking on Crisp County. Crisp had defeated Effingham 25-0 to advance to this game and held on to defeat Liberty by a 12-6 score.

In other all-star football action, the Liberty 8U squad was defeated by Wayne County in the first round of the District 2 tournament by a 7-6 score. The 12U all-star team from Liberty was also defeated in the first round by eventual District Champ Camden County by a score of 20-0.

The U12 All-Star soccer team from Liberty County also won the GRPA District 2 Championship and advanced to the state tournament.

The District 2 tournament was played in Wayne County where Liberty defeated Fort Stewart 10-0 and Wayne County 7-0 to take the District Championship. This propelled Liberty into the GRPA State Soccer tournament in Dalton on Dec. 1-2. Liberty faced a tough Columbia County team in the first round but came away with a 2-1 victory. In the second round, Liberty took on Dalton and despite a 2-1 lead at the half were defeated 6-3 by the eventual State Champs.

Liberty also had all-star soccer teams in the U10 and U14 divisions. Both lost tough games to Wayne County in the first round of the district tournament.

The U10 score was 7-5 and the U14 score was 3-0.
