Panther Pitcher Aric Albertson struck out eight Bryan County High School batters during Mondays game.

Liberty County High School opened the 2017 baseball season with a 2-1 victory over Bryan County on Monday.

Dashlon Brown for Bryan County produced great game, pitching 6 and 1/3 innings with 13 strikeouts. Brown also broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third inning with an RBI single.

The Panthers did not score until the final inning of the ballgame, when Matt Williams brought home a run with a base hit to tie the game at one a piece. Patrick Underwood became the game hero with a walk off single following the hit from Williams to bring another runner home. Aric Albertson for Liberty County had a good first start from the pitcher’s mound, striking out eight batters.

The Panthers take on McIntosh County and Claxton High School this week.

Bradwell Institute

Bradwell Institute lost to Savannah Country Day with a final score of 18 to 9. Savannah Country Day scored their first eight runs in the top of the first inning, then scored three more in the third.

The Tigers tried to retaliate, scoring five runs in the bottom of the third, but were not able to pull close, as Savannah Country Day scored five runs in the fifth inning to pull away and hold off Bradwell for their first win of the season.

Bradwell looks to shake off the opening loss when they take on Bryan County in their next game on Saturday February 18.
