The Liberty County baseball team made the most of its Saturday morning and afternoon.
The Panthers staged a late rally to beat crosstown rival Bradwell Institute 11-7 and kept that momentum going with a 12-2 win over First Preparatory Christian Academy in their nightcap at Bradwell.
The Panthers trailed 6-2 after two innings against the homestanding Tigers before rallying to tie the game at 7-7 in the fifth.
Liberty pushed across four runs in the seventh to take the lead for good.
Matt Richardson’s two-run double broke the tie in the seventh, and A.J. Gerace’s seventh-inning double also plated a run.
The Panthers finished with seven hits, six of them doubles. D.J. Walker had two of them, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Jamison Thomas also had two RBIs while Carlos Singleton and Bryce Stafford also had doubles.
Walker also got the win on the mound, allowing two hits over 2 2/3 scoreless innings.
Nigel Green was 2-for-4 with a double for the Tigers, and Jeff Kissinger was 2-for-2. Terrance Johnson had a triple in the loss.
The Panthers broke open their win over the Highlanders with a seven-run third inning.
D.J. Frison had a triple and four RBIs, while Singleton went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Thomas went 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Matt Richardson also went 2-for-3.
Thomas also struck out six and gave up one earned run in five innings.
River North was 2-for-3 with a triple for the Highlanders and Caleb Harron was 2-for-4.
In the finale Saturday at Bradwell, FPCA scored seven runs in the first inning and held on for a 13-5 win over the host Tigers.
Caleb Harmon was 3-for-3 with two triples and drove in four runs for the Highlanders. Logan Brown went 3-for-4 with a double, and Mason Bruning was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. North was 2-for-4 with a double, Hayden Arney tripled and drove in two runs and Cameron Eason had a triple.
Felix Garcia was 2-for-3 with a triple for the Tigers, while Johnson and Yomalier Senati-Pizario each went 2-for-3. Dustin Snelson drove in two runs in the loss.
