Liberty County softball team names Davis MVP, top hitter at banquet

The Liberty County softball team handed out awards at a recent team banquet.

The Lady Panthers, coached by Jerome Standard, finished 7-12 overall and 0-12 in Region 2-AAA.

Melaine Davis, a senior, was named the team’s most valuable player and won the Lady Panthers’ slugger award.

Caitlyn Rykard won the team’s academic athlete award while Hayden Roudebush earned the golden glove award.

De’Ana Gumataotao won the ironman award, while Carmae Gumataotao was named most improved.

Coaches awards went to Dominique Roberts and Caitlyn Rykard.

Seniors Davis, Roberts, Carmae Gumataotao and Madison Winn will be missed, Standard said.

Junior varsity honors included Kimberly Colon winning MVP; Moe Jenkins was named golden glove; Amani Greene earned the slugger award.

Keria Tate was named most improved and Rykard won the voaches Award.

Roudebush, Emma Kirk and Shelby Ray were first-time letter winners.

“There were many other players that had productive seasons and we look forward to improving overall as a team next season,” Standard said.
