Liberty County XC teams qualify for state AAA meet

Devonte Roberts was the highest placing Panther at the 2-AAA cross country meet. He placed third.

The Liberty County High School boys’ and girls’ Cross Country team qualified for the state championship by finishing third at the 2-AAA Region Championships Thursday afternoon in Baxley.

According to Panther cross-country coach Jarvis McArthur, the Panther boys had four runners place in the top ten, tallying 61 points. That meant the boys’ team missed second place by a mere one point. Appling County took first with 58 points and Tattnall County was second with 60 points.

The Panther boys were led with by Devonte Roberts, Anthony Vasquez, Tamaurio Jenkins, and Cleveland Dargan, who placed third, seventh, eighth and ninth respectively.

McArthur said the Lady Panthers also placed third and were led by Alicia Griffith, Lillian Kuhl, Caitlyn Rykard, Tia Anderson, and Alexis Steinberg.
McArthur coached cross country from 2006-2009 and then coached the Lady Panther soccer team until last year when he returned to coaching cross-country.

The 2016 GHSA Cross Country State Championships presented by the Atlanta Track Club will be held on November 4-5 in Carrollton.
