Liberty Pirates swimmer impressive at state

10-year-old Sandra Scott was the first Liberty Pirates swimmer to qualify for the USA Swimming 14 and Under Georgia State Championships in Augusta, held the last weekend in February.

During last Saturday’s competition, she placed 15th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:21.35, dropping 3.5 seconds off her time from two weeks ago. Scott also qualified to compete in the 100 fly in the 14 and Under Southern Zone Sectional Championships to be held in Charlotte, N.C., in March. Scott placed 22nd in the 200 individual medley and 26th in the 100 freestyle.

On Sunday, she earned a time of 1:18:98 in the 100 individual medley and qualified for zones with an 18th place finish. In the 50 butterfly, Scott went 34:14 for a 14th place finish and another zone qualification. In the 50 freestyle, she placed 18th, just off the zone qualifying time. Scott finished 31st in the 100 backstroke.

She lead the Liberty Pirates to a 9th place team finish in the small team division.

March 12-15, Scott will represent the Pirates at the 14 and Under Southern Zone Sectional Championships in Charlotte.
