Liberty takes cross town win in softball

Liberty County High School is two games into their softball season and are 1-1 to date. As reported in Wednesday’s Courier the Liberty girls lost to Long County 5-1. Thursday the Lady Panthers rebounded with an 8-0 win over Bradwell Institute on Lady Panther field.

It was Bradwell’s first game of the regular season.

According to stats posted on maxpreps.com Lady Panther Kathryn Carter was selected as the player of the game. She pitched the five inning shutout tossing 13 strikeouts.

Carter, Candice Blitch, Navia Telfair, Rachel Smith and Cassidy Collum each recorded a hit against Bradwell pitcher Madison Winn. Collum was credited with 2RBIs, Smith had a triple, according to maxpreps.com.

Winn and Lady Tiger teammate Briana Tootle were credited with one hit each in the game.

Winn took the loss striking out one batter and allowing four walks.

Bradwell and Liberty will both play this weekend at the Tattnall County Warriors blast.

Bradwell has games today at 4 and 7 p.m. Friday against New Hampstead and Vidalia respectively. They are scheduled to play Bryan County, Toombs County and Emmanuel County Saturday at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The Lady Panthers will play today at 7 p.m. against Treutlen and again at 8:30 p.m. against host Tattnall County. Saturday they play Bryan County at 10:30 a.m., Appling County at noon and Metter at 3 p.m.

The Lady Tigers are 0-1, Liberty is 1-1 going into the tournament.
