Two points separated the Region 3-AAAA champion from the second-place team. Unfortunately for fans of Liberty County High School boys’ basketball, that advantage went in Glenn Hills’ favor.
The Panthers’ 46-44 loss Wednesday in the region-title game in Augusta was preceded by their 79-68 win over Butler on Tuesday. However, Liberty still earned the right to host a state-playoff game. The Panthers will play Crisp County at 6 p.m. Saturday.
LCHS basketball coach Willie Graham said he will remind his team there is some basketball left to play. If the Panthers want to make a run, they need to put Wednesday’s loss behind them.
“We are one of only 32 AAAA boys’ basketball teams still playing,” Graham said.
In Tuesday’s semifinal game, Panther Davion Mitchell had a big game, pouring in 27 points. Freddie McSwain added 17 points, Conner Bailey 13 and Richard LeCounte chipped in 10.
In Wednesday night’s loss, LeCounte led with 17 points. McSwain added 12 and Mitchell 10.
