SAVANNAH — Two current Eagles and two former Eagles placed in the top 20 at the 2009 Oglethorpe Invitational at the Wilmington Island Club Sunday.

Eight Eagles represented Georgia Southern in the championship round. Considered Savannah’s premier amateur golf tournament, rising seniors Spencer Fulford and Ryan Zabroske finished tied for sixth, while former Eagles Jordan Johnstun and Travis Mobley of Hinesville, tied for 17th.

After the opening two rounds, eight Eagles advanced to the championship round, having placed in the top 60 of the 117-participant field on the par-72, 6,876 yard course.

Standing one stroke behind Zabroske, Fulford (Rocky Mount, N.C.) shaved off one stroke in the final round to finish tied for sixth alongside Zabroske (Alpharetta) at 205.

Fulford fired a 4-under 68, matching his opening round, as Zabroske carded a 3-under 69 to secure a tournament total 205, six strokes behind the medalist.

Former Eagles Johnstun (Evans) and Mobley tied for 17th place. Johnstun responded from a 1-over 73 second round to finish the tournament strong with a 2-under 70 championship round.

Mobley carded his lowest round of the tournament Sunday with a 4-under 68. Johnstun and Mobley posted 210 tournament totals.
