Three of the four Scott’s All-Stars AAU basketball teams recently sponsored and attended Project Alpha, an annual teen-pregnancy prevention workshop for males and females ages 10-17.
More than 100 people attended this year’s program May 21 at Jenkins High School in Savannah. Several sessions scheduled throughout the day helped make kids aware of STDs, dealing with peer pressure and the true costs and legal ramifications of teen pregnancy.
The kids also were provided with lunch.
By attending the program, the All-Stars players satisfied four hours of community service for their league.
The fourth-grade All-Stars participated but left early to play in a tournament at Hilton Head Island.
Several other All-Stars teams joined the tournament later that day, and the fourth- and fifth-grade squads finished third in their respective brackets. The middle-school team finished fifth, and the high-school team took third with a 2-1 record.
