Bradwell’s basketball teams were swept Saturday at Statesboro in non-region action.
The Tiger boys dropped a close 44-40 battle to the Blue Devils. In the girls’ game, the Lady Tigers suffered a big loss, 50-29.
Tiger basketball coach Rhett Hellgren said his team played hard, but was hurt by rebounding and dribble penetration.
Senior Malcolm Dingle led the Tigers in scoring with 16 points. Tevin Womack chipped in eight points, Reasha Stokes added seven, Jamorris Hill had four, Jair Reynolds and Hubert Anderson each scored two points and Darrell Hawkins scored one point.
The Tigers are 12-8 overall and 8-2 in Region 3-AAAAA.
The Bradwell teams were scheduled to play Tuesday in Savannah, but potentially inclement weather forced the schools to reschedule to Feb. 8. Jenkins remains the top boys’ team in the region, with Bradwell at No. 2 over Effingham County.
In the girls’ matchup, newcomer Brianna Johnson scored 10 points to pace the Lady Tigers. Akeyla Richardson chipped in seven points, Journae’ Young added five, Javaughna Claridy scored four and Selena Manies scored three.
The Lady Tigers are 6-14 overall and 4-6 in the region.
The Tigers will host Richmond Hill on Friday beginning at 7 p.m. with the girls’ game.
