Blue Tide baseball team receives honors

The Long County High School baseball team recently was recognized at the school’s annual spring sports banquet.  
Luke Golden took home two individual awards, the highest field-percentage award and the academic award. Shawn Mills received the Blue Tide leadership award, Cody Fleck earned the highest batting-average award, and Tristan Goodro received the lowest earned-run-average award.  
Several players were recognized for earning Region 2-AA honors. Golden made the first team, Fleck made the second team, and Goodro, Mills, Strickland and Rogers garnered honorable-mention status.
Earning bars for their letterman jackets were John Christiansen, Shane Deloach, Chase Rogers, Jacob Turner, Fleck, Golden, Goodro and Mills.  Earning their letters this year were Austin Mills, Cole Ray, Austin Simmons and Strickland.  Taking home letters of participation were Logan Hyde, Gage Kasperian, Brandon Nobles, Joseph Poe, Trae Stapleton, Vanda Vereen Jr., Jared Tompkins, Hall, Lester and McGowan.
For the junior-varsity team, Christian Hall received the best offensive-performance award, Ryan McGowan received the best defensive-performance award, Clay Strickland received the best pitching-performance award, and Brian Lester received the academic award.
Jason Tompkins also was given a letter of appreciation for announcing Blue Tide home games.
The Blue Tide golf team also was recognized at the banquet. Details will be published in Sunday’s paper.
