The Hinesville Hurricanes suffered a 12-8 loss Saturday at home against the Georgia Pirates.
On a muddy field, the ‘Canes fought to contain the Pirates, allowing only two touchdowns and no extra points. But the ‘Canes were held to only one touchdown and a two-point conversion.
The ‘Canes are still in the playoff run, however, after the CSSR Cobras decided to forfeit their upcoming game this weekend.
The forfeit places the ‘Canes in the first round of the United Spring Football League Southern Division playoffs.
The Hurricanes will travel to Spartanburg, S.C., on May 5, to play the Upstate Redskinz in round one at 7 p.m.
The ‘Canes are 5-3 and have scored 130 points this season. The Redskinz are 6-1 and have posted 148 points.
The winner will take on the Georgia Hurricanes from Atlanta. The Georgia Hurricanes are undefeated at 8-0 and beat the Hinesville Hurricanes, 39-8, on April 7.
The championship game will be at 7 p.m. May 19 in Augusta.
The Hinesville Hurricanes will also host the United Spring Football League All-Star game at Long Bell Stadium in Stafford Park at 7 p.m. June 2. More information about that game will be forthcoming.
