The Southeastern Diamondbacks, a newly formed Liberty County 12U traveling baseball team, played in its first tournament Saturday in Pierce County and took second place for their bracket at the Peach State Diamond Sports Wheel Pitch World Series. The Diamondbacks, who were established in March, practiced twice before the tourney but managed to make a good showing.
The team is coached by Brent Nobles and Duane Johnson. The coaches said they were proud of the team’s accomplishment. Most of the players also play for Liberty County Recreation Department baseball teams.
The Diamondbacks are scheduled to play their next tournament June 30 in Homerville.
