The Hinesville Soccer Association and Hinesville Gators are sponsoring a week-long elite soccer camp starting next Monday at James Brown Park.
Team Italy scout and trainer Gavino Asteghene, director of the Atlanta Calcio Academy, will return for the camp. Asteghene, a native of Italy who also coaches at The Lovett School in Atlanta, first came to Hinesville in February 2013 and worked with the First Presbyterian Christian Academy soccer teams. They worked with Astegehene and his staff for two hours each morning on the technical and mechanical aspects of the game.
That year, the FPCA girls’ team, which finished second in the state the year before, won the state title, and the boys’ team was the state runners-up.
Last July, Astegehene and the academy hosted a camp at Liberty Independent Troop Park.
During last year’s camp, Asteghene said that Hinesville had a lot of talented players.
The campers received one-on-one instruction from Asteghene and his team, which last year included former professional Italian player and goalkeeper Francesco Macri.
Registration for the camp is online at www.atlantacalcioacademy.com and is open to boys and girls ages 6-18. The camp runs from 9 a.m.-noon Monday through Thursday.
