Pierce County blanked Long County, 8-0, in a Region 2-AA contest Tuesday in Blackshear. All but one of the Bears’ runs were unearned.

"I was very disappointed in our defensive play," Blue Tide coach Brian Thomas said. "We are very anxious to get to practice and iron out our defensive issues. I was proud of our pitchers, Shawn Mills (who picked up the loss), Austin Middleton and Carlton Milton. They pitched very well."

Leading hitters for Long County were Jonathon Flynn and Luke Golden, who each went 2 for 3, and Jacob Turner, who was 1 for 3.

The loss dropped the Blue Tide’s overall record to 3-5 and their 2-AA mark to 0-3.

The Blue Tide will have another opportunity to pick up their first region win when they face the Toombs County Bulldogs tonight at 6 p.m. in Ludowici.
