First Presbyterian Christian Academy already made history last week, despite its 40-7 loss to Bethesda as the Highlanders launched the school’s first football program with a home game.
The Highlanders avoided a shutout when quarterback Herbert Roberts connected with George Mitchell for a 40-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.
Tonight, the St. Andrews Saints of Savannah will come marching into Long Bell Stadium looking for their first win of the season as well. Kickoff is 7:30.
The Saints, 0-3, have lost to Bible Baptist, 42-18, Southside Christian, 25-14 and Bulloch Academy, 52-35. The Savannah team has per-game averages of 120 passing yards, 107 rushing yards, 28 tackles and 6.7 sacks.
FPCA coach Andy Yanzetich said his team intensified its cardio and conditioning workouts this week to help ensure the players don’t  fatigue early in the game.
“We did some things offensively and defensively that we are proud of and can build on, and we need to limit the mistakes we had which basically came later in the game when we were wearing down,” Yanzetich said. “We picked up our conditioning this week, and we are going to pick it up every week. Hopefully, that will make a difference.”
Yanzetich said St. Andrews is a mirror image of his team as far as the number of players they carry on their roster and level of play. He said that definitely will give his fledgling team an even playing field tonight.
“I don’t care what anybody says, winning is important … the sooner we can do it, the better it will be because that will always build some confidence,” the coach said. “I think we have a good chance this week.”
