The Hinesville Hurricanes expected to be playing their first playoff game Saturday. Instead, they got a free pass to the next round.
The Hurricanes’ scheduled opponent, the Walterboro Commanders, forfeited the first game of the United Spring Football League playoffs, which was set for Long Bell Stadium in Hinesville.
The forfeit advances the Hurricanes to the next round of the playoffs where they will face the Georgia Pirates this coming Saturday in Augusta.
Kick-off is at 7 p.m.
Hurricanes’ coach James Sharp expects a good challenge from the Pirates. Just two weeks ago the Pirates took a 21-12 win over the ’Canes in a heated battle.
The Hurricanes know how to get to a title, having won the 2010 Southeast Football League championship trophy. Since then, the team has switched to the spring league and has twice come close to claiming the championship.
