Former Liberty County High School basketball player Miata Askew will be in Savannah on Friday and Saturday with Young Harris College to play in the Pirates’ Classic.
The 5-foot-8 sophomore guard and the Young Harris College Lady Mountain Lions will take on the Armstrong Atlantic State University Lady Pirates at 7 p.m. Friday and will play Flagler College at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
As a freshman last season, Askew played in 24 games and started four. She averaged 22.1 minutes per game and was 50 percent from the free-throw line. She averaged 4.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.8 steal and 0.1 block per game.
Askew scored a career-high 10 points in three games last season and pulled down a career-high seven rebounds against North Greenville.
She was 3 of 6 in field goals and 1 of 1 for trey shots while coming off the bench for 14 minutes in Young Harris’ 65-50 victory last week in its season opener against Reinhardt.
Askew is the daughter of Tina and Georgia Askew.
