Jelani Hewitt named SoCon player of the month for November

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Georgia Southern guard Jelani Hewitt was picked recently as the Southern Conference player of the month for November after leading the league in scoring for the opening month of the season. A native of Miramar, Fla., Hewitt scored more than 20 points in six of GSU’s eight games in November.
Highlighted by a career-high 38 points in the final game of the month, Hewitt was named SoCon player of the week twice to open the year. In the game against Campbell, Hewitt also had 11 rebounds for the first double-double of his career.
Hewitt began his month with 25 points in a season-opening win over Columbia International and backed that up with 27 in a one-point loss at Miami. Hewitt also scored 23 points in games against Toccoa Falls and Old Dominion and had 26 in a win over Presbyterian. He shot 44.1 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from 3-point range in the month.
