Kick return helps lift Liberty to win over Bradwell

Liberty County's Demarai Booker wraps up Bradwell's Treshaun Peggis.

Liberty County’s big-play ability helped the Panthers keep the Commissioners Cup in their possession.

Tre Foster’s kickoff return for a touchdown right before halftime swung momentum back to the Panthers, and Liberty cruised to a 32-12 win over Bradwell Institute on Friday night at Olvey Field/Hokey Jackson Stadium.

Liberty County, 2-0 on the season, has won the last five meetings between the two teams. Bradwell and Liberty did not play each other last year.

Bradwell tied the game at 12-12 as Tyus Jones took a short pass and raced 82 yards down the sideline with 1:14 left in the first half.

The Tigers tried a pooch kick on the ensuing kickoff, but it skittered out of bounds. Panthers coach Tony Glazer chose to have the Tigers kick again. Foster gathered the football around his own 29, cut across the field and then took off the Liberty sidelines, scoring with 1:00 left in the half.

“That was huge,” Panthers coach Tony Glazer said of Foster’s score. “We felt like we made mistakes and let them score. We got great blocks and Tre Foster made a great return. In my opinion, it changed the momentum in the ball game.”

“At that point, we were still in the ball game,” Tigers coach Deshon Brock said of Jones’ long touchdown.

Ron Golden caught two touchdown passes from Carlos Singleton, and threw an 8-yard TD pass to Singleton on a double reverse.

James Summersett’s 7-yard TD run in the fourth quarter capped the scoring.

Treshaun Peggis powered through three tacklers to score on a 39-yard touchdown run in the first quarter for Bradwell.

“It boils down to execution,” Brock said. “We didn’t execute. We had opportunities.”

Liberty is off next week while Bradwell travels to New Hampstead.
