Any reigning state-champion soccer team knows every team it faces will try to knock it  down a notch.
That was the case for the First Presbyterian Christian Academy Highlander girls Monday, when they hosted their biggest rival, Frederica Academy from St. Simons Island. The Lady ’Landers claimed a 3-2 win at St. James Field.
FPCA struggled on offense in the first half, missing three open shots on goal. The Lady Knights had a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Lady ’Landers coach Tom Sukaratana told the girls that if they intended to win, they would need to score a goal within the first 10 minutes of the second half. They responded, tying the game at 1-1.
With FPCA up, 2-1, in the final minutes, the Lady Knights scored a goal to tie. However, the Lady ’Landers dug deep and responded with the winning goal.
FPCA’s Cecilia Graham had two assists and a goal in the game.
The Highlanders were scheduled to play Tuesday at Westminster.
