Liberty County High School managed to squeeze in soccer games Tuesday in Brunswick despite misty weather in the afternoon.
And for the Lady Panthers, it was a good trip.
The Liberty girls notched their third win of the season by beating the Pirates, 1-0. In the second game, the Panther boys lost, 3-2.
Lady Panther coach Jarvis McArthur said his girls made a lot of shots on goal “but just couldn’t finish,” he said.
McArthur said the majority of the game was played on the Pirates’ side of the field, stemming from good passes on the Lady Panthers’ offense.
Lady Panther Cortney Welch scored the team’s lone goal midway through the first half.
“Once again, our defense was solid led by senior Lynda Jimenez,” McArthur said, adding that junior Erykah Brown and sophomore Mattie Keith contributed to the success of the defense.
“We are making a lot of progress this season, but will have to be at our best Friday afternoon, when we face a very tough Savannah Christian team,” McArthur said.
The Lady Panthers are 3-3 overall and 0-2 in Region 3-AAAA. They play at Savannah Christian at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
The Panther boys are 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the region.
