The Bradwell Institute Lady Tigers set and spiked their way to a 1-1 record Thursday at Groves High School during their first volleyball matches of the season.
According to volleyball coach DeAndre Davis, the girls beat Groves in two straight sets (25-13, 25-23), earning their first Region 3-AAAAA win.
The Lady Tigers then faced Effingham County and lost the first set, 25-23, won the second set, 25-19, and battled in the third set, losing 25-16.
Davis said the girls are improving each week, and a few mental errors and first-match jitters gave Effingham an edge.
“Several young ladies stepped up last night in both matches,” Davis said, commending Kiera Martin and Jessica Helton for stepping up on defense. “They did an excellent job of digging, playing the net and keeping the ball alive for the
team.”
Davis said the girls had a balanced approach on offense.
KeAndrea Ladson scored 25 points, and Leitia Leiataua tallied 20. Bianca Reyes, Raven Dozier and Emele Philip each scored 19, and Keiauan Savea scored 15.
Up next: The BI girls host Ware County and Jenkins at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
