Locals carry EGSC Bobcats into third round

In its third year of men’s basketball, the East Georgia State College Bobcats made to the third round of the NJCAA Basketball Tournament. The Bobcats were eliminated by undefeated Spartanburg Methodist College, 75-68, Thursday.
After claiming the Georgia College Athletic Association Region 17 Championship with a 74-71 win over Chattahoochee Tech on March 9, the Bobcats steamrolled Coffeyville Community College, 79-47, in the second round of the Division I Tournament on March 20.
Former First Presbyterian Christian Academy basketball players Jordan Johnson and DJ Felder and Bradwell Institute players Jon Blair and Jalen Watson all provided valuable minutes in that game.
Johnson led scoring, dumping in 18 points. He also had six rebounds and three assists. Felder added eight points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Watson added seven points and four rebounds and Blair chipped in six points and an assist.
The victory set up the match between EGSC and Spartanburg on Thursday, when Felder again led scoring with 18 points. He also had six rebounds and one assist. Johnson scored 14 points, six rebound and three assists. Blair chipped in six and Watson four.
Johnson is ranked number one in the conference for three-pointers and overall points scored and points per game. He tallied 633 points overall and 379 points in conference games.
The Bobcats closed the season with a 31-3 overall mark and were 19-1 in the GCAA conference. They remained undefeated at home (17-0) and were 12-2 at away games.
