The Long County Recreation Department junior boys All-Star team won the recent Lyons Invitational Tournament in Toombs County.
The 13- and 14-year-old boys sailed through the tournament, allowing only 4 runs while putting up 30 against their opponents.
In game one, they shutout Twin City, 14-0. In game two, they manhandled Evans County 11-1. And in the championship game, they got past a tough Soperton team, 5-3.
Members of the team include Matt Strickland, Josh Gordon, Britt Crews, Deondre Volcy, Brandon Nobles, Jeffery Edmondson, Brian Lester, Tripp Stapleton, Brett Blake, Dylan Stewart, Krew Jones, and Mikey Harrelson. The team is coached by Nicky Wells, Deon Wells, and David Stapleton.
Long County Recreation Department Director Michelle Rogers praised the players and coaches.
“I want to congratulate the boys on a great job in Lyons, and I want to wish them the very best as they now move on to the district tournament in hopes of advancing to the state,” Rogers said. “I also want to thank the coaches and volunteers who worked with the kids, because without them, none of this would be possible.”
Rogers said that the team will now play in the district tournament on June 21 in Hazlehurst, taking on the Jeff Davis County All-Stars.
