Friday went well for the Long County High School soccer program, as both the girls and boys teams notched wins at Metter.
The Lady Tide picked up their fourth shutout of the year by winning, 10-0, in a game shortened by the mercy rule. In the boys’ game, the Blue Tide picked up their first region win of the year by thumping the Tigers, 8-0.
Long County girls head coach Brian Todd praised his team’s defensive and offensive play.
“Our defense played very well as we notched our fourth shutout of the year. Katie (Estill) made some great plays in the goal,” Todd said. “Nakia Hunter continues to distribute the ball to our players in great positions to score. Kelsey (Higgason) added another four goals tonight to bring her season total to 23. Sometimes, you get caught up just watching her play. It’s fun.”
Samantha Garcia also had a great night on offense with three goals of her own. Alyssa Anderson had two goals, and Megan Higgason tapped in one goal.
With the win, the Lady Tide moved to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in Region 2-AA
The Blue Tide improved their overall record to 3-4 overall and 1-4 in the region. No other boys’ game information was available at press time.
The Tide teams were scheduled to host Bryan County on Tuesday.
The soccer teams are off until next Tuesday when they host Vidalia.
