Liberty County High School’s Raekwon McMillan is set to play for the East Team in the 2012 RisingSeniors.com Bowl at 1 p.m. Monday at Grady High School. The game, which features 95 of the state’s top high-school juniors, will be televised on ESPN3.
On Tuesday, McMillan was chosen as the Class AAAA Defensive Player of the Year by the Georgia Sportswriters Association.
McMillan already is being touted as an athlete to watch after scouts and recruiters posted blogs about the East Team’s practices and scrimmages, which started Friday. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, McMillan was selected by sports writers and recruiters as the defensive MVP during the first day of practice.
McMillan reportedly delivered a crushing tackle in the first play of the game, which set the tone for the rest of the day.
247Sports analysts Rusty Mansell and Keith Niebuhr reported McMillan’s instincts are sound, as is his footwork and speed. They also said he had the biggest hit during the scrimmage and added that McMillan is extremely coachable, having sought input and direction from the coaching staff.
McMillan has offers from schools across the nation, including Ohio State University, the University of Alabama, the University of Georgia, Clemson University and USC, which he said are his top five choices, in no particular order.
