Former Liberty County High School basketball players Jordan McRae  and Rion Brown have earned league and region postseason honors, according to reports posted on the University of Tennessee and University of Miami athletic websites.
Utsports.com reported that McRae earned inclusion on the National Basketball Coaches Association All-District 21 second team Wednesday. That came one day after he was selected first-team All-Southeastern Conference and USBWA All-District IV.
McRae posted eight 20-point games and two 30-point games in SEC play this season. His 18.8 points in league games ranked fifth in the conference. In addition to being Tennessee’s top scorer in SEC regular-season play, he also leads the Volunteers in 3-point shooting percentage (.395, sixth in the SEC) and assists (2.6 per game).
Earlier this week, McRae was listed as second-team All-SEC by BleacherReport.com.
The Volunteers, seeded fourth in the SEC tournament, play at about 3:30 p.m. today.
Hurricanesports.com reported that Brown, a senior shooting guard, was selected to the All-Athletic Coast Conference third team both by both the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association and the league’s head coaches. The report was released Monday.
The report stated Brown averaged 16.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 35.6 minutes per game in ACC play. The Hinesville native hit 44.4 percent (100-225) of his shots from the field and 34.5 percent (40-116) of his 3-pointer attempts. He led the Hurricanes in scoring nine times during conference play.
Brown ended the season as eighth in the ACC in scoring, seventh in field-goal percentage, eighth in 3-point percentage, tied for eighth in 3-pointers made per game and ninth in minutes played.
Brown, a team captain, improved his scoring from 6.3 points per game a season ago. He notched 20-plus points in eight games as a senior, and did so twice as a junior.
He also improved his rebounding from 1.8 to 5.4 boards per game, and his minutes increased from 20.3 to 35.6 this season. He also improved his field-goal shooting from 38.8 to 44.4 percent.
The Hurricanes were schedule to play North Carolina State on Friday in ACC tournament action in Greensboro, N.C. Results were unavailable at press time. Miami topped Virginia Tech, 57-53, on Wednesday in the opening round. Brown led Miami with 15 points, according to ESPN.com.
