McRae, Vols set for NCAA 2nd round

Liberty County High School alum Jordan McRae will lead the University of Tennessee men’s basketball team into the second round of the NCAA tourney today against the University of Massachusetts in Raleigh, N.C.
The Midwest Region game will start at 2:45 p.m. on CBS.
According to, McRae led the Volunteers with 20 points as Tennessee topped Iowa, 78-65, in overtime Wednesday in an opening-round game in Dayton, Ohio. Tennessee outscored the Hawkeyes, 14-1, in the extra session. The Vols held Iowa to 0-for-8 shooting from the field in overtime.
“I think we did a tremendous job towards the end of fighting back. … we did a great job on defense,” McRae said in the postgame news conference, per “(Iowa) is a team that scores 82 points a game, and for us to hold them like we did, it was a great job.”
Eleventh-seeded Tennessee (22-12) is 3-0 all-time against Massachusetts (24-8), including an 83-69 win last season.
