The Long County High School baseball team endured a fifth straight loss Friday, falling 10-0 in five innings to visiting Pierce County.

Shawn Mills started on the mound for the Blue Tide and didn’t allow a hit in the inning, but the Bears capitalized on four Long County errors in the inning to go up 3-0. The Bears took advantage of a pair of hits and two more errors in the second inning to go up 7-0.

Long County coach Brian Thomas pulled Mills in the third inning and brought in Jacob Turner, but the Bears tacked on two more hits and Long County made another error to help extend Pierce County’s lead to 8-0.

In the bottom of the third, the Blue Tide loaded the bases on two hit batters and a single from Austin Middleton, but Long County couldn’t score.

Turner was hit by a line drive in the top of the fourth. Senior Jonathan Flynn took the mound and shut down the Bears until the fifth, when Pierce added two runs.

Long County managed two hits and had nine errors. The Blue Tide are 5-13 overall and 1-9 in 2-AA. They face No. 7-ranked Toombs County on Tuesday in Lyons at 5:45 p.m.
